Mourning transformed into hope

Today, Holy Saturday, the Church is immersed in deep mourning, remembering the Passion and Death of the Lord.

The beginning of this day is marked by a spirit of mourning. A time of waiting, where we remember that Jesus was placed in the tomb and then descended into hell, to rescue all from a death, which does not have the last word.

But in these moments, neither the disciples in the tomb, nor we in our realities, are alone. The Mother of God, Mary, accompanies her children in this moment in which God seems to be absent. She remains steadfast in Hope, at the side of the Beloved Disciple, strengthening the faith, trust and hope of all her children.

Mourning has no time, but it has place and purpose: to organize both the inner and the outer world, whose raison is turned upside down by the absence of the one we love. In this case, we have the certainty that the one we love gave his life for us, and that he will return to bring us eternal life. This mourning will be transformed into hope.

So, on this Holy Saturday, as we reflect on the death of Jesus and the deep sadness that gripped his followers, we also find comfort in the loving presence of Mary. In her company, we find the strength to transform our mourning into hope and our sadness into a confident longing for eternal life.
