The Sisters Hospitallers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus hold their XX General Chapter

The Chapter will take place at the General House in Rome, from 3-27 May.  It will be attended by 43 Sisters of the Chapter and four guests of 11 different nationalities, as well as a number of co-workers who will participate in the study and discernment of the Shared Mission.

The Chapter is the Congregation’s most senior governing, representative and participative body. It is held every six years with the aim of examining the state of the Congregation and promoting its spiritual and apostolic vitality, while remaining true to the charism of hospitality. It is here that the General Superior and governance team are elected.

The chapter itself has been preceded by a long and intensive preparation stage which has culminated in the preparation of a working document entitled PATHS TO REVITALISATION.

Once the final document is approved, it will be used as a guide for the Hospitaller Community for the next six years, as it seeks to recreate the hospitality provided by the Congregation’s Founders, according to the guidelines of the church and the requirements of the sick and needy in each social context.

The Sisters Hospitallers Congregation was founded on 31 May 1881 in Ciempozuelos in Madrid, Spain, by Saint Benedict Menni of the Hospitaller Order and two women from Granada, Spain, María Josefa Recio and María Angustias Giménez.

The Congregation’s mission embodies and expresses the ongoing charism of Hospitality, which is lived out in a range of different contexts, and the healing mission of Jesus of Nazareth in favour of the mentally ill, the mentally and physically handicapped and people suffering from other illnesses, with a particular emphasis on the poor and needy.

Today the Congregation has spread throughout 27 countries on four continents promoting a hospitality mission that involves 1,140 sisters, almost 11,000 collaborators and more than 1,000 volunteers and friends.
