San José and María Josefa Recio Martín: the same response of faith and devotion

Saint Joseph and María Josefa Recio Martín

The Church celebrates Saint Joseph, a just and faithful man to whom God entrusted the care of Jesus and Mary. His life, marked by silence, attentive listening, and complete trust in the Lord, continues to be a luminous example of openness to God’s will.

Saint Joseph did not speak many words in the Gospels, yet his life was a concrete response to God’s call. He welcomed events with faith, protected with tenderness, and acted with courage whenever the mission required it. His figure continues to inspire the Church as a model of humble and generous service.

On this same date, we also remember the birth of María Josefa Recio Martín, a woman of deep faith who dedicated her life to serving the sick and to the desire to repair the Heart of Christ. Her journey was marked by generous dedication and an unshakable trust in the love of God.

Although they belonged to different contexts and times, Saint Joseph and María Josefa Recio Martín share the same attitude of heart: listening to God and responding with a life fully given. Both show us that holiness is built in everyday fidelity, in the humility of service, and in the readiness to embrace the mission that the Lord entrusts.

For our hospitaller mission, their witness continues to be a source of inspiration. In Saint Joseph we recognize the silent trust that sustains the journey; in María Josefa Recio Martín, the concrete generosity that becomes service to those who suffer the most.

Today we give thanks for their lives and ask that their example may continue to inspire our commitment to a hospitality lived with faith, tenderness, and generous dedication.
