Hospitality Breaks Cultural Barriers.

“Before me, no African sister had ever been part of the General Government.” With these words, Sister Léontine Judith Ngo Mbock, current Provincial Superior of France of the Congregation of the Sisters Hospitallers of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and former member of the General Government, begins her interview with La Vie, a French Catholic-inspired magazine, of catholic inspiration.

Her story is also part of the evolution of our Congregation. The appointment of an African sister to the General Government marked a significant step towards greater interculturality.

In the interview, Léontine speaks about her experience in the General Government between 2018 and 2024 and how her presence helped introduce a new perspective on cultural integration. Africa began to be discussed with greater recognition of the diversity of its 54 countries and their different cultures. Generic references to African sisters gradually gave way to recognising each sister’s specific background: she was a sister from Cameroon.

Her journey reflects a Congregation in which different cultures and experiences come together to live out and develop a shared mission. Her experience represents a significant step towards building an increasingly intercultural Congregation.
