On the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity, we remember that transforming the world does not require extraordinary actions, but the firm decision to draw close to human fragility. True solidarity begins when, following the example of Jesus the Good Samaritan, we choose not to pass by those who are suffering. Instead, we see the other person, allow ourselves to be moved by their reality, and respond with compassionate closeness.
Within our Hospitaller Family, we understand that solidarity comes to life when it is transformed into Hospitality. This means clothing ourselves with hearts full of mercy in order to offer a “liberating welcome,” caring for, healing, and defending the inviolable dignity of every person, with special attention to those in the most vulnerable situations.
This commitment to solidarity reaches beyond borders through the Benito Menni Foundation. Faithful to our founding spirit, the Foundation works to promote access to mental health care and improve the quality of life in countries and communities where mental suffering and unmet needs are most urgent.
In many parts of the world, people living with mental health conditions face not only illness but also stigma, exclusion, and neglect. In response to this reality, the Foundation promotes projects that unite science and charity to provide comprehensive care, accompaniment, and the protection of people’s rights. In this way, we strive to be true “prophetic signs of hope,” helping to build more just and inclusive societies.
The universal solidarity we promote is neither distant nor extraordinary. It can begin today through simple actions: offering a listening ear without judgment to someone who is suffering, accompanying with compassion those who feel alone, or supporting initiatives that bring healing to those who need it most.
On this International Day of Solidarity, we invite you to ask yourself: What Good Samaritan gesture can you make part of your way of life today?
Because every small gesture matters. And when solidarity becomes Hospitality, we can help build a “common home”where no one feels forgotten and every life is cared for.
