Sisters Hospitallers promote sports and motor rehabilitation in people with mental illness

MOVE Project

Despite the restrictions of the pandemic and the insecurities of these times, the partners of the MOVE project met in Lisbon on March 22 and 23 to continue in presence and with enthusiasm the activities dedicated to sport and motor rehabilitation. The project has been promoted by Hospitality Europe and involves at the forefront the healthcare structures of the Provinces of the Order (Centre of the Brothers – Kainbach bei Graz, San Juan de Dios Foundation – Lisbon, SJD hospital – Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Instituto SJD – Genzano de Roma) next to the Purísima Concepción center of the Sisters Hospitallers, located in Granada (Spain).

The participants have stayed in the Curia of the Portuguese Province of the Order and have collaborated in the elaboration of the European guidelines of a protocol, based on their experiences and knowledge about the most effective methods for the rehabilitation and maintenance of the psychophysical health of patients through the regular practice of physical exercise or motor activity carried out in the corresponding internal areas of the social and health structures. The participants have held the meetings at the Portuguese Golf Federation, within the framework of the collaboration that for many years has linked the Federation with the San Juan de Dios Foundation in Portugal through specific golf courses for psychiatric patients treated in the centers of the Order.

Mr. Galasso was also present in Lisbon on behalf of Hospitality Europe, which prepared and presented the corresponding application for EU funding in 2020. The project will continue through regular remote meetings with a view to the next transnational meeting to be held in Austria (Kainbach bei Graz) in the month of May.
