General Government

The Congregation is made up of houses, which are organized into provinces, vice-provinces, and delegations.
The highest authority in the Congregation is the Pope, and internally, authority is exercised ordinarily and personally by the Superior General, assisted by her Councilors, forming the General Government.

Idília Maria Moreira G. Carneiro

Superior General

She was born in Mozambique in 1966 and joined the Congregation in 1984. She holds a degree in Social Work from the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences in Lisbon (1988–1993). She earned a Master's in Spirituality and Health Ethics (1997–2000) and completed postgraduate studies in Human Resources Management (2004).

Her hospital experience has focused on management, mission support, and the animation of the Province and Communities.

  • From 1997 to 2000, she served as Executive Director of the Bom Jesus Health Center in Braga.
  • From 2000 to 2006, she was the Second Provincial Councilor, responsible for animating the hospital mission.
  • From 2006 to 2012, she served as Provincial Superior.
  • From 2012 to 2018, she was Superior of the Community of Idanha.
  • From 2018 to 2024, she served as Provincial Vicar, coordinating the Province’s Centers and the area of the Hospital Mission.

María Begoña Perez Martínez

Second General Councilor

Born in San Llorente de la Vega (Burgos, Spain).

She studied nursing in England and Pedagogy for Vocational Formation in Rome. She has served as Secretary and General Councilor, and was most recently the Provincial Superior of the Province of England, which includes missions in Ghana and Liberia.

She was elected Fourth General Councilor in June 2018.
Elected Vicar and First General Councilor at the 2024 General Chapter.

Mª Carmen Martín García

Second General Councilor

She was born in Burgos, Spain, and entered the Congregation in 1974.
She holds a diploma in Nursing, with a specialization in Psychiatry.

Her experience and service in hospital ministry include leadership as Superior of various communities, as well as serving as Provincial Superior and Second Provincial Councilor.

She was elected Second General Councilor at the 2024 General Chapter.

Blanca Flor Guerrero Anganoy

Third General Councilor

Born in Pasto (Colombia).

he studied Religious Studies in Colombia and Pedagogy for Vocational Formation in Rome. She also holds a specialization in Health Administration. She has served as Provincial Councilor and Provincial Secretary of the Latin American Province.

She was elected Third General Councilor in June 2018 and again at the 2024 General Chapter.

Nicole Mayinga Muwenge

Fourth General Councilor

Born in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo).

She holds a degree in Spiritual Theology from Rome. She served as formator for postulants and junior sisters in Kinshasa (DRC).

She was appointed local superior in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) before being assigned the same role in Korbongou (Togo) in 2021.

She was elected Fourth General Councilor in May 2024.

Maria Antónia Moreira Guerra

General Treasurer

Born in Batalha (Portugal).

She holds a degree in Business Organization and Management (ISCTE-Lisbon) and an integrated Master's in Theology (UCP-Lisbon).

She has primarily served in hospital ministry in the administrative area of health centers in Portugal and as Provincial Treasurer of the same Province for 12 years.

Appointed General Treasurer in April 2021.

Maria Cristina Hernández Rodríguez

General Secretary

Born in Zamora (Spain). She holds diplomas in Teaching and Nursing. She entered the Congregation in 1983.

She has exercised hospitality as Director of Nursing at the local level, Juniorate Formator, Second Councilor, and Provincial Secretary in Spain.

Appointed General Secretary in December 2024.
