Hospitaller Family: the testimony of Godfrey Berdin Dasmariñas, nurse and nursing coordinator in the Philippines

Today we would like to introduce you to Godfrey Berdin Dasmariñas, nurse and nursing coordinator at the Maria Josefa Recio Therapeutic Centre in the Philippines, who has been working with the Sisters Hospitaller for almost 17 years. His dedication and commitment embody the spirit of hospitality that our Congregation promotes in each of its centres.

The Maria Josefa Recio Therapeutic Centre is a rehabilitation centre designed to offer a comprehensive care programme for patients recovering from mental disorders. This centre is distinguished by its rigorous clinical treatment and quality care that reflect both the philosophy of our Congregation and the vocation of its highly trained staff. Its mission is to give its users a chance to fully reintegrate into society, restoring dignity and renewed life.

Interview with Godfrey Berdin Dasmariñas

Where do you work, what is your role and how long have you been with Sisters Hospitallers?

I am Godfrey Berdin Dasmariñas, a nurse appointed as nursing coordinator at the Maria Josefa Recio Therapeutic Centre. I have been working here for almost 17 years.

Which centres exist in the Philippines and what is your speciality?

  1. The Guardian Angel Learning Centre in Pasig: Special Education Programme for students with special needs.
  2. Maria Josefa Recio Therapeutic Centre: In Barangay San Jose, Cebu City. It is a psychiatric centre that treats acute and chronic mental illnesses.
  3. Divine Mercy Family Home Rehabilitation Centre in Kasambagan, Cebu, which also caters to the mentally challenged.

Could you define hospitality in one sentence?

Hospitality is the act of being compassionate, caring and welcoming to our needy and sick brothers and sisters.
