Fundación Hospitalarias Palencia will hold its 8th Conference on Schizophrenia on September 30, bringing together professionals and specialists to share the latest advances in research and care, as well as to reflect on the challenges that schizophrenia still presents, particularly the stigma associated with mental health.

Under the theme “New Horizons”, the conference will feature the participation of leading national and international specialists. The opening keynote will be delivered by Professor Jim van Os from Utrecht University, who will address new approaches focused on the care needs of people with schizophrenia.

Research will be another key focus, with a panel dedicated to advances in the understanding and care of schizophrenia. Participants will include Manel Sánchez Pérez, Manuel Ángel Franco Martín, and Edith Pomarol Clotet, Managing Director of FIDMAG, who will address, respectively, late-onset schizophrenia, pharmacological developments, and advances in understanding its symptoms.

In the afternoon, the conference will focus on the stigma associated with mental health, with the participation of representatives from advocacy organizations, professionals, and people involved in inclusion and community support initiatives. The event will conclude with the presentation “Proposals for Living in Extraordinary Times”, delivered by philosopher, writer, and science communicator Elsa Punset.

Since its first edition in 2008, this conference has become a forum for scientific updates, professional exchange, and social reflection on schizophrenia. The 8th edition will be held at the Provincial Cultural Centre of Palencia, and all available places have already been filled.
