World Hospice and Palliative Care Day: The Greatness of Hospitality

Día Mundial de los Cuidados Paliativos: La Grandeza de la Hospitalidad

On World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, we embrace the profound truth expressed by Benedict XVI:
“The greatness of humanity is essentially determined by its relationship with suffering and with those who suffer.”

Palliative care is the essential treatment provided to a person when there is no longer a possibility of curing the illness. Its primary objective is to safeguard the person’s space and time of life, ensuring the best possible care for that stage of their existence. It is not about adding days to life, but about adding quality to lifefor both the patient and their family.

This approach is rooted in a fundamental reflection on the value and uniqueness of the human being, grounded in the conviction that “You matter because you are you, and you matter until the very end.”

Our vocation compels us to respond to suffering. For us, caring for terminally ill patients is one of the most profound expressions of our charism, revealed as enlightened charity. We believe that charity toward those who suffer must be joined to both natural and supernatural truth, rising above the empty sentimentalism of a culture without transcendence. Only charity, illuminated by the light of reason and faith, can make a more human, just, and compassionate world possible. It is in this service that the charism of Hospitality is fully realized.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive care, offering a service of welcome, listening, and support that embraces every dimension—clinical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual. We regard death as a natural process, and thus, our care is holistic, extending to the family to accompany them through every moment until the end. Through proper care, patients and their families find relief, sheltered under the canopy that symbolizes our Hospitality and the commitment of a team that focuses on the person, honoring their dignity at every stage.
