Jubilee of People with Disabilities and the Example of the Purísima Concepción Center in Granada

This Jubilee of People with Disabilities is an opportunity to highlight those who, with dedication and passion, build a truly inclusive society. Among them, the Purísima Concepción Special Education Center of the Hermanas Hospitalarias in Granada shines with its own light.

This year, it was honored with the Princess of Girona School Award 2023 for being an educational leader in diversity and inclusion. Under the motto “I am capable, I am the protagonist,” the center places each individual at the heart of its mission, developing innovative methodologies that empower children and young people with disabilities to be the protagonists of their own lives.

During the award ceremony, His Majesty the King praised the example set by this educational model, which fosters equal opportunities, promotes emotional well-being, and empowers students through the CeRA Project (Specialized Reference and Support Center).

From halotherapy classrooms to independent living workshops, every space is designed to creatively and compassionately address cognitive, motor, communication, or emotional challenges—using technology and, above all, heart.

During this Jubilee, we recognize the value of every step toward a more humane, inclusive, and just education. We celebrate those who believe in the potential of every person—just as our Hospitalarian community has done for over 140 years.

In memory of Pope Francis, who passed away this Monday, we recall his words filled with humanity and compassion for the most vulnerable:

“Let us pray that people with disabilities may be at the center of attention in society, and that institutions may offer inclusion programs that enhance their active participation.”
— Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention, December 2023
