On Friday, October 6, a meeting was held of the European working group dedicated to mental health and made up of experts from the European Provinces of the Hospitaller Sisters and the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God, chaired by Brother Joaquim Erra and Dr. Carlo Galasso. The meeting focused on the planning of some joint activities that the mental health services of both congregations will carry out within the framework of the strategy adopted this year by the European Union to strengthen and improve national mental health systems.

The area to which most attention will be devoted in the coming months will be the mental health of young people, which has deteriorated greatly since the Covid19 pandemic, through a publication on the most innovative intervention programs offered in this area in the Provinces and a collaboration with the Salesians Don Bosco congregation to hold a series of international webinars on the mental health of young people in 2024.

The Hospitaller Sisters and the Order have also applied to lead a professional development program on mental health promoted by the European Commission and an information and awareness program on the rights of psychiatric patients coordinated by the World Health Organization.

The Sisters Hospitallers welcome this joint and collaborative work to promote the universal right to mental health for all.
