The <strong>World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly<\/strong> holds special significance for the <strong>Hospitaller Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus<\/strong>, reminding us that caring for people in the final stage of life is not merely a healthcare service, but a sacred encounter with human history, wisdom, and vulnerability.<\/p>\n<h2>Caring for Frailty with &#8220;Science and Charity&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">At the Hospitaller Sisters, caring for older adults is one of our key areas of ministry through our <strong>psychogeriatric services<\/strong>. In our centres, we provide comprehensive care for older people living with multiple health conditions, cognitive and functional decline, and behavioural disorders. We know that, in illnesses such as dementia or Alzheimer&#8217;s disease, memory may fade, but the essence and dignity of the person remain unchanged.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For this reason, we are committed to providing holistic care that always brings together science and humanity. We strive not only for medical and technical excellence but also to be a living witness of compassionate closeness, accompanying those who are approaching the end of life with love and dignity. Inspired by the <strong>Good Samaritan<\/strong>, we choose not to pass by those experiencing the vulnerability of old age. Instead, we see, we are moved with compassion, and we respond with loving solidarity.<\/p>\n<h2>Responding to the Needs of the Soul<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Old age, especially when marked by mental suffering or cognitive decline, brings with it profound questions and deep spiritual needs. Through our pastoral care, we recognize that every older person deserves to be acknowledged and valued as a person until the very moment of death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Accompanying older adults means helping them discover meaning, in the light of God, in what they are experiencing, while offering opportunities for reconciliation with themselves, with others, and with God. Our mission is to enable them, even amid increasing limitations, to find hope and a future rooted in faith that gives fullness to their lives. Sometimes the best treatment is not simply medicine, but patience, a welcoming gaze, and an environment that offers the warmth of a true home.<\/p>\n<h2>Bringing Generations Together Through Hospitality<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Caring for older adults is never an isolated task. Within our great <strong>Hospitaller Family<\/strong>, we seek to involve everyone\u2014patients, families, healthcare professionals, Sisters, and volunteers\u2014in a community where each person shares in and contributes to the common good. Families play an essential role, and it is our responsibility to accompany them as well, especially during the most difficult moments, helping them bear the suffering and helplessness that often accompany the decline of a loved one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This day is also an urgent invitation to young people and to society as a whole. In the face of a culture of exclusion that marginalizes those who are no longer considered &#8220;productive,&#8221; hospitality teaches us to value every person above all else. The encounters between younger generations and older adults in our centres remind us that we all need healing, and that caring for another person&#8217;s fragility makes us more deeply human.<\/p>\n<p>On this <strong>World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly<\/strong>, let us renew the way we look at older people. Behind every face marked by the passing of time is a rich story waiting to be heard and embraced.
