Guardian\nAngel Learning Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nJosefa Hospitaller Foundation, an affiliate of the Sisters Hospitallers\u2019\nCongregation, manages the Guardian Angel Learning Centre, located in the city\nof Pasig (Philippines). The school, which is accredited by the Philippine\ngovernment, offers quality education to children aged 4-12, with both regular\neducation and special education courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n –\nRegarding regular education courses, the centre enrols 18 pre-primary students\n(4-6 years old) and 90 primary school students (6-12 years old).<\/p>\n\n\n\n –\nFor special education courses, the centre enrols 54 children (3-12 years old)\nwith different pathologies: autism, functional diversity and\/or Down\u2019s\nSyndrome, among others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The school\u2019s goal is to help guarantee the right to education for children with special needs, who attend the centre to develop themselves to the fullest extent possible. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Focusing\non special education, the school offers early intervention for toddlers with\nspecial needs through an inclusion programme (integrated into the regular\nschool programme) that features occupational therapy sessions with the centre\u2019s\nprofessionals and the child\u2019s circle of support, which may include parents,\nteachers, therapists, centre personnel, and the entire educational community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ncentre has more than 22 professionals and 10 classrooms for normal school\nactivities, two dedicated occupational therapy rooms, a cafeteria, a library, a\nlaboratory, and a playground for the recreational activities that are so\nnecessary in schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nevertheless, in the last year, an important issue emerged regarding the children\u2019s safety and the sustainability of the school, due to the condition of some of its facilities.<\/strong> Specifically, the existing water pipes\u2014being very old\u2014developed leaks, which resulted in excess water consumption (a scarce resource in the area), negatively impacting the school\u2019s budget and hindering its main purpose: providing quality education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Moreover,\nthe school\u2019s roof is rusty, deteriorating, and leaking a lot, so much so that\nduring the rainy season, classes are interrupted because of leaking and\nflooding. Heavy rains and storms hit the Philippines with increasing frequency,\nmaking it necessary to have a strong infrastructure capable of withstanding\nadverse weather conditions, where we can provide uninterrupted quality\neducation in a safe environment for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\nProject\ncontext<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
