Don\u2019t miss it!\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalarias.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/CONTIGO.N39.-Octubre-2020-EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (se abre en una nueva pesta\u00f1a)\"><strong>Read full newsletter Contigo October 2020<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We leave you an  infomercial about the Benito Menni Foundation Projects 2020 and 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalarias.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/India-rehabilitation-center-2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"contigo october\" class=\"wp-image-51565\" width=\"413\" height=\"310\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The\nFundaci\u00f3n Benito Menni (FBM), a charitable foundation run by the Sisters\nHospitallers, works to support projects presented by the institution\u2019s centres\nin Africa, Asia, and Latin America.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the meeting held in December 2019, the Foundation&#8217;s Board of Trustees decided which projects would be included in its Action Plan for the current year. <strong>In total, it is currently developing over 30 projects in 10 countries. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The projects on which the Foundation is currently working are divided into different areas, but <strong>all of them pursue the common aim of treating people holistically, ensuring the beneficiaries can get access to healthcare, especially mental healthcare,<\/strong> and quality education, thereby contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are reflected in the 2030 Agenda promoted by the United Nations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\nyear, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of the projects are being adapted to\nensure the health and safety of the people working on them, as well as the\nbeneficiaries. Some of them are described below, by area of action<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mobile Mental Health Consultations: \u201cAntennas\u201d:&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the figures provided by our Centres in Africa, <strong>mental health consultations are increasing every day in the different countries around the continent where the Sisters Hospitallers are working. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, patients have difficulty travelling from their home to the referred Mental Health Centre, either for physical reasons, due to long distances, or for economic and social reasons. For this reason, after studying the local and regional situation, projects have been promoted that foster the creation of mobile health teams or \u201cantennas\u201d, taking the mental healthcare provided by the Sisters Hospitallers from our Centres to areas beyond the reach of healthcare facilities to meet the needs of the population. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hospitalarias.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/Foto-consulta-1024x671.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-51564\" width=\"413\" height=\"257\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For\nexample, in Cameroon, support is currently being provided to the Ayos and\nEbolowa \u2018antennas\u2019 so that people living far from the urban centre can receive\nmental healthcare and training. This is possible thanks to the collaboration of\nPamplona City Council (Spain). This project includes the regular journeys made\nby the team from the Yaound\u00e9 Hospitaller Centre (Cameroon) to the towns of Ayos\nand Ebolowa; medical consultations and the delivery of medicines to people with\nmental illness; follow-ups on treatment in coordination with the nearest\nfacility; as well as raising awareness of mental health issues, mainly aimed at\nfamilies, related to mental health and illness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Togo,\nthey are developing a project entitled &#8220;For greater socio-family integration:\nmental healthcare and awareness in Mango and Cinkass\u00e9&#8221;, with the aim of\nbringing mental health facilities closer to sectors of the population that\ncould not otherwise be treated, due to the geographical distance between their\nplace of residence and the nearest mental health centres. This project is\nsupported by the Fundaci\u00f3n Roviralta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rehabilitation of people with mental illness living on the\nstreets<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The projects included in this line of action offer mental health care and provide medicines and food to people living on the streets who are suffering from this illness. <\/strong>The first task involves detecting and approaching homeless people, providing assistance so that they can follow mental health treatment, building bridges to foster integration and promoting access to existing community resources. A solar energy project is also being developed at the \u2018Telema\u2019 mental health centre (DRC), thanks to the support of Fundaci\u00f3n Eki and \u00c1frica Directo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Support\nis also being provided to build a Mental Health Centre in Dapalong, Togo, and for\na project entitled \u201cImproving the care of people with marginalised mental\nillness\u201d at the Divine Mercy Family Home in the Philippines, thanks to the\ncollaboration of the Fundaci\u00f3n Hermanos Iraizoz. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Improvement of mental healthcare conditions <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The initiatives included in this line of activity aim to provide support to health centres and shelters for people with mental illness, so that they can offer a higher level of care. <\/strong>They also work to promote the well-being of patients and improve their mental health.
