“A shoot shall spring from his roots”: we begin the Canonical Visit of the Superior General to the Congregation

6 Hermanas Hospitalarias en Piceno

With hearts open to the newness of the Spirit and under the merciful gaze of the Heart of Jesus, we share with the entire Hospital Family the beginning of the Canonical Visit of our Superior General.

In this time of grace, in harmony with the journey of the Church and our own process of Revitalization and Restructuring, the Superior General, Sister Idília Maria Carneiro, has begun this itinerary of encounter and communion. This visit is not a mere formality, but a true kairos to rekindle in each of us fidelity to the charism and spirit of our Founders.

A gaze from the root

Illuminated by the motto “A shoot shall spring from his roots” (Isaiah 11:1), we feel called to a new way of seeing. From what is small and fragile, we seek to recognize the vital strength of our charismatic roots in order to glimpse what is new that is being born along the path of fidelity. Accompanying us on this pilgrimage is the icon of the Heart of Jesus, source and foundation of our mission.

The objective is clear: to strengthen the bonds of communion that unite us as one body, to stimulate our apostolic service, and, together, to examine the reality of our communities and works in order to discern the directions the Spirit is offering us today.

Echoes of the visit in Italy: Community of Ascoli Piceno

The visit began in the Delegation of Italy. On January 23, 2026, at the Community of Ascoli Piceno, Casa di Cura S. Giuseppe, Sister Idília, accompanied by the General Secretary, Sister Mª Cristina Hernández, experienced a profound encounter with the community.

It was a beautiful sign of the universality of our charism to meet an intercultural community made up of four sisters from China, the Philippines, and Italy. This diverse face of Hospitality reminds us of our call to build harmony in diversity and to be witnesses of a love without borders.

Moments of shared life

The central elements of these days have been true spaces of life and revitalization:

  • Fraternal encounter: Core aspects of our spiritual, fraternal, and apostolic life were addressed, seeking together what is “pleasing to the Lord” in order to renew our mission.
  • Closeness in mission: The visit to the facilities allowed for close interaction with collaborators and residents, touching the flesh of Christ in those who suffer.
  • Shared mission: In the meeting with collaborators, the current challenges of the Congregation in this time of revitalization were shared, strengthening our co-responsibility in consolidating the culture of hospitality.
  • Ecclesial communion: The visit of the Bishop of the Diocese of Ascoli, Msgr. Gianpiero Palmieri, confirmed us in our belonging and service to the local Church.

With our hope placed in the Lord, who makes all things new, we accompany with our prayer the continuation of this journey, which will begin next on January 28 in Viterbo.
