Testimonies of Mercy: Sister Ana María Lizarrondo

From a very young age, Sister Ana María Lizarrondo felt the call of Jesus deep in her heart. Although she did not hear his voice audibly, she could clearly perceive his presence and mercy, something that strengthened her decision to leave her home and family, to whom she was deeply attached.

As a Hospitaller Sister, Ana María’s life has been marked by her unconditional dedication and service to the most vulnerable. Throughout her mission, she has devoted herself especially to children left with polio sequelae and to people facing mental health problems. In each of them, she has been able to see the love of God reflected. “Here God is with them, strengthening them,” she says with conviction, expressing how her faith has become intertwined with her daily work.

One of the aspects that Sister Ana María highlights about her mission is the importance of accompaniment and prayer. For her, praying for patients is a fundamental form of support: “We pray for them and give them all the love and support they need to get ahead. That is a great satisfaction as a hospitaller”. Her vocation is not only to provide physical care, but also to be a presence of comfort and hope through prayer and love.

The testimony of Sister Ana María reminds us that hospitality is not just an act of care, but a true call to love, to support and to be the presence of God in the lives of those who need him most. In every action, in every prayer, the love that overcomes barriers and heals both body and soul is made present.
