IV World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly

Today, July 28, we celebrate the IV World Day of Grandparents and the Elderly. Accompanied by the motto “In old age do not forsake me” (cf. Ps 71:9), Pope Francis invites us to reflect on the importance of building a society that values and cares for its elderly, ensuring that they do not feel alone or forgotten.

The Holy Father reminds us that grandparents and elders are fundamental pillars in our families and communities, as they are bearers of a rich heritage of faith, culture and traditions. Their lives are full of valuable lessons that help us navigate our own paths. They are living witnesses to history and teachers of life who teach us by their example of dedication and strength.

By highlighting their vital role in our society, the celebration of the Day aims to encourage the commitment of the entire ecclesial community in building bonds between generations and in the fight against loneliness. It is a real opportunity to thank them for their invaluable contribution and to renew our commitment to be present in their lives.

From Sisters Hospitallers we join the call of the Holy Father to, through prayer and hospital service in our centers, contribute to the health and well-being of the elderly, and we ask for the strength to care for them with the love and respect they deserve.
