International Mother Earth Day is celebrated on April 22.

Its objective is to promote the preservation of the environment, with a view to a fair balance between the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations. On the other hand, it is intended to mobilize political leaders and civil society to implement measures that protect our planet.

This day was created by resolution 63/278 of the United Nations General Assembly, on April 22, 2009.

In 2021, the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, says that “we must act decisively to protect our planet from both the coronavirus and the existential threat of climate change. Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action. Nature is suffering. The oceans fill with plastic and become more acidic. Extreme heat, wildfires and floods, as well as a record Atlantic hurricane season, have affected millions of people. We now face COVID-19, a global health pandemic link to the health of our ecosystem.”

The SDGs and the 2030 Agenda, in the context of the United Nations, define the priorities and aspirations of global sustainable development by 2030 and seek to mobilize global efforts around a set of common goals and targets, including a general area associated with the Planet. : focused on sustainable consumption and production, the fight against climate change and the management of natural resources. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is an action plan focused on people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships. We must remember that the alteration of the climate, the loss of biological diversity and pollution endanger life, employment and health.

Making peace with nature is the defining task of the 21st century. We need to achieve a sustainable world through dedication to the three planetary crises of climate change, loss of biodiversity and pollution.
