Communion that Promotes the Vitality of the Charism: Meeting of the General Commission of Hospitaller Laypeople

From November 17 to 22, 2025, the General Government headquarters in Rome became the meeting place of the General Commission of Lay Hospitallers (LH). The gathering began on a particularly significant day: the feast of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, patroness of the Congregation, whose life continues to inspire the path of Hospitality.

The Commission, made up of four sisters and four lay members, together with the Superior General, was composed of:

  • Sor Fernanda Estévez
  • Luis Jaramillo
  • Sor Idília María Moreira
  • Miriam Chamorro
  • Sor Blanca Flor Guerrero
  • Sor Ana Lucía Castro
  • Clara Bosque
  • Delia Caires
  • Sor Caterine Dayo

The purpose of this meeting was to strengthen identity, belonging, and communion in the Hospitaller charism, renewing the commitment to continue building—step by step—the future that Hospitality invites us to dream.

Throughout these days, the Commission recalled the journey undertaken and shared the progress made in this process initiated some time ago. They reflected on the life of the Sisters Hospitallers Lay Groups: their way of working, their formation, their sense of belonging, and their relationship with the Sisters and with the Church, which gathers and sends forth.

They also shared experiences with other lay groups not directly linked to the Sisters Hospitallers, enriching their perspective through diverse realities. They also received formation from an expert in lay groups within the Church, which allowed them to delve deeper into current dynamics, processes, and challenges.

The Superior General offered a reflection on the journey of the Lay Hospitallers in the light of the Document of the XXII General Chapter, providing key insights to continue advancing in a unified way, faithful to the spirit that gave life to the Congregation.

These days were truly a space of fraternal encounter, where prayer, shared life, and dialogue with the Sisters became a source of mutual enrichment. Each moment reaffirmed that the shared mission is a treasure that continues to grow when lived with simplicity and dedication.

The values of communion, gratitude, empathy, belonging, life, love, encounter, and commitment remain the foundation of this journey. With hope and joy, the Commission continues taking steps toward a hospitaller future that responds with creativity and fidelity to the charism we have received.
