International Working Women’s Day

On March 8 we celebrate International Working Women’s Day, and for Sisters Hospitallers, it is a very marked date since this institution was born with the objective of responding to the situation of abandonment and social exclusion of women with mental illness of the time.

Currently, the institution continues to work every day to fulfill this mission, and carries out solidarity projects for the empowerment, rehabilitation and reintegration of homeless and mentally ill women in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa.

Collaborate with our projects

On this day, celebrating International Working Women’s Day, we remember María Josefa Recio and María Angustias Giménez who, together with eight more sisters and San Benito Menni, were responsible for solving the moment of neglect suffered by women with mental illness at that time.

Thanks to the legacy he left the Hospital Order of San Juan de Dios was formed.  It is a Catholic institution whose origin dates back to the 16th century. It is present in 55 countries on five continents, consisting of 1,061 Brothers, 45,000 professionals, 8,000 volunteers and 300,000 donors.

In Sisters Hospitallers, we celebrate with great joy this day so marked, to be our founder San Benito Menni, a brother of San Juan de Dios.
