On October 27, 2021, the Italian Province of Hospitaller Sisters celebrates the 75th anniversary of its canonical constitution.
In these 75 years of history, 1946-2021, in the Italian Province of Sisters Hospitallers, in addition to the centers located in the cities of Viterbo, Nettuno and Ascoli, already present in 1946, the centers located in Albese, Morena, Naples, Canneto Sabino (Rieti), Foggia, Roccella and Palermo. Later, time and history marked the conditions to withdraw from the centers in Foggia, Canneto Sabino, Naples, Roccella and Palermo.
In 1988 they expanded their presence to the Philippines, specifically in the cities of Manila and Cebu, which later became a Delegation and passed to the General Government. They also arrived in China, from where they came various vocations with which, once formed, they made an unsuccessful attempt to establish their presence, but where they hope to return when the Covid 19 pandemic allows it, and thus carry out the hospital project in this Asian country.
Actuality of the Province of Italy
Today the Province of Italy is made up of 4 assistance centers, directed by the Provincial House, an administrative and management center. There are 45 Sisters of the Province, of four nationalities: Italian, Spanish, Filipino and Chinese. The Province carries out the mission together with 600 collaborators.
The healthcare centers serve a total of 575 patients with various pathologies, particularly psychiatric ones. They have: assisted health residences, care for people with disabilities, dementia residence, residential and home palliative care, in addition to permanent vegetative states. All these devices also provide a wide range of diagnostic services and specialist visits to outpatient clinics. They are accredited and affiliated with the Public Administration.
All the centers live the mission as a manifestation of God’s mercy in the care and care of people who suffer, such as the Good Samaritan, according to the style and hospital model delivered by our founder, Saint Benedict Menni. In the country they are recognized for the quality of the care of the services they provide: comprehensive and rehabilitative assistance, which focuses on the person who suffers. They are also dedicated to research in order to improve care and contribute to the social good of people with mental illness.
They have diversified services to expand the field of action, for the benefit of patients and for better management. Human assistance is based on hospital values, shared among a multidisciplinary work team that builds the Hospital Community. The centers also constitute a social wealth, due to the high number of jobs they generate.
